Why Cade Cunningham isn’t arrogant about Detroit’s success

The Detroit Pistons are the best team in the Eastern Conference at the All-Star break, at 40-13. Right now, the Pistons’ success has set them up well to be a big player in the playoffs. Despite what it is top team in the eastPistons star on the rise Cade Cunningham played down team success, according to Marc J. Spears of Andscape.

“I don’t think I’ll ever get a big head. Something my grandmother always said was, ‘Just stay humble.'” And this was long before I became famous for basketball or anything. I didn’t have anything that people were targeting me for. But she always said, ‘Stay humble,’” Cunningham noted.

Cunningham had a great seasonaveraged 25.3 points and 9.6 assists per game while shooting 46.2% from the floor, including 33% from the three-point line. Overall, he was the go-to guy for the Pistons, scoring at least 29 points in four of the last five games leading up to the All-Star break.

But Cunningham has also been in Detroit since being drafted in 2021. At the time, the Pistons were one of the worst teams in the NBA. In the 2023-24 season, the team had a 14-68 record, worst in the NBA. However, things changed dramatically last season, when the team went 44-38 and made the playoffs.

The Pistons have been even better this season, currently holding first place in the Eastern Conference. Moreover, their closest competition is the Boston Celtics, who are three games behind them. All others have at least 13 games behind them in the table. However, the The Pistons made some moves at the trade deadline. But that hasn’t changed the way Cunningham views the team or himself.

“I don’t want to be too much for anybody or anything. The whole team is built that way. A lot of guys on this team have overcome a lot to get here. And so, we kind of bond over that,” Cunningham explained.
