Why Davante Adams is a big fan of George Pickens

Pittsburgh Steelers wideout George Pickens he has had a successful NFL career thus far. however, Davante Adams is confident the Georgia alum will stay the course.

Adams was talking about Pickens talent ahead Saturday Pittsburgh Steelers-Baltimore Ravens Wild Card Game, via the Up & Adams Show.

“George is a hell of a talent, he is a unique player. “He has a very unusual style, and I told him I’ve been a fan of his game since college,” said the three-time First Team All-Pro. “He’s a dog.” I’ve always admired his physicality when he comes off the ball and he just throws the DB to the ground, breaks free like he’s releasing, and then just pushes him to the ground, that’s always fun to watch.”

Pickens led Pittsburgh in receiving the last two seasons and was his second-leading receiver in 2022, his rookie year. The former CFP national champion is a dynamic presence in an otherwise sluggish Steelers offense, but his personality has been chaotic at times.

“He’s been a bit of a wild card this year, or I guess in his career,” Adams continued. “But everybody has a different personality, and he’s got one of the best coaches in the game (Mike Tomlin) to help him handle him, similar to how he handled AB (Antonio Brown), so obviously he’s going to help. I’m sure it would help to get some of those things under control, but that’s the way he is. He’s a hell of a player and he plays when he steps on the field, so what are you going to do?”

Pickens has been in hot water multiple times, such as in October when he wore black eyes that read “Open F**king Always,” via ESPN. The 23-year-old has also been involved in feuds, such as his feud with Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II in November.

However, Pickens is not the first young and talented athlete to have maturity issues. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder has a good support system in Pittsburgh, as Adams alluded to. Tomlin has been the head coach of the Steelers since 2007, so he has plenty of experience managing those types of players.

If Pittsburgh upsets Baltimore on Saturday night, Pickens will likely be a big reason why.
