Why Jeanie Buss thinks Jerry would approve selling the franchise

The The Los Angeles Lakers have been up and down this season, currently in a decent playoff position in the Western Conference coming out of the All-Star break. This comes amid reports of some behind-the-scenes drama in Los Angeles, with a recent article from ESPN exposing some intense family animosity between Governor Jeanie Buss and her siblings.

Buss recently orchestrated the sale of the Lakers to businessman and Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter last year, and now Jerry Buss’ daughter is speaking out about why she thinks her father would be on board with the decision to sell.

“It was important to him that the Lakers stay at the top of the NBA, and to stay at the top of the NBA, you have to have the resources,” ESPN’s Baxter Holmes said, via CNBS. “It takes everybody coming together. And he would want (that) for the Lakers, because the Lakers are his legacy.”

The Lakers have truly become synonymous with Dr. Jerry Buss during his tenure as team owner, establishing themselves as the most successful franchise in the NBA landscape by a wide margin.

Unfortunately, Los Angeles hasn’t been at the top of the NBA for quite some time, without a playoff win since the 2023 season, but they hope to change that sooner rather than later now that Luka Doncic is in contention.

“The partnership will give us the stability to continue moving forward as we build a team around Doncic,” Buss said. “We couldn’t be more proud of him as a Laker. He’s a young All-Star that fans love to see.”

Although Jeanie Buss’ siblings may not see things the same way as her, it seems that the daughter of Dr. Buss happy with decision to sell team.
