Why Jonathan Cumminga ‘feels like the scapegoat again’

The Golden State Warriors he may have once again hit some turbulence when it comes to Jonathan Cummingaespecially during the past week. After starting the season in the starting lineup, things looked great for the Warriors. then, Kuminga’s production began to declineleading to several losses for the team, and head coach Steve Kerr decided to bench him.

The Warriors then reeled off three straight wins, and now it seems like it’s Kuminga outside looking inaccording to ESPN’s Antonio Slater.

“He feels like a scapegoat again,” a team source said via Slater.

The only person on the team who has taken Cumming under his wing is Jimmy Butler, who he feels understands the situation he is going through. Butler was asked about Kuminga and his state of the team during their winning streak.

“It’s not that he’s not in the lineup that’s why we’re winning,” Butler said. “We’re just playing better basketball. The roles are clearer. We’re making shots. We’re guarding. It has nothing to do with him. If he was in the lineup, I still believe we’ll win these games.”

Much like last season, things seem to be going well for the Warriors when Kuminga doesn’t have a big role on the team. In some games, he looks like a player who can do everything on the field. Other times he can struggle, which can hurt the team in certain situations.

At this point, it’s hard to know what the future may hold for Kuminga on the Warriors, and he really won’t know until he’s trade-eligible, which is in January. For now, it looks like he’ll continue to play his game while taking advice from Butler.

“I feel like, in this league, he’s one of the guys that has actually (been) in my shoes throughout his career,” Kuminga said. “And he knows what I’ve been through.”
