Why Reed Sheppard Believes Rockets Need to ‘Shoot More 3s’

The The Houston Rockets have been up and down of late, picking up two wins this week over underachieving opponents following their collapse against the New York Knicks over the weekend. During Wednesday’s win over the Sacramento Kings, the Rockets guard Reed Shepard caught firescoring 28 points and making seven 3-pointers in the win.
After the game, Shepard was 100% honest about how he thinks the 3-pointer can be tied more weapons for Houston moving forward, according to Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle.
“I think there’s always room for more threes, but I like to shoot threes, so that’s me,” Shepard said. “The more we play tempo and continue to get into the paint, teams are going to have to make a decision whether to split up or try to stay in the gaps, and if they do that, it leaves us open to shoot more 3s.”
Shepard added that it will change every night because the teams’ defenses are different, but if we can continue to keep the tempo going and get into the game, then there will definitely be more open threes.
The Rockets have several shooters on their roster, led by Shepard, who is hitting over 39 percent of his shots from beyond the arc this season.
While free agent Dorian Finney-Smith’s deal is starting to look like a bust, Tarry Eason continues to spray the long ball effectively, and Kevin Durant, of course, remains a perennial long-range threat.
Houston’s offense has slowed down a bit after a hot start to the season, but they still have enough firepower to be a dangerous opponent for anyone come playoff time.
The Rockets will next hit the floor for a tough matchup against the red-hot Orlando Magic on Wednesday night on the road. Tipoff is set for 7:30 PM ET.
