Why the Hawks won’t trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Atlanta Hawks they have a bright future and have set themselves up to make moves if necessary. With Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to be the next big star in motion, The Hawks could make an offer for himbut so far it doesn’t look like they are interested in the dealaccording to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fisher.

“Early indications are that Atlanta has not joined the Giannis pursuit and does not intend to,” they wrote. “The Hawks have control of Milwaukee’s picks in the next two drafts, but to date have shown no interest in surrendering control of them. The Hawks are also said to be unwilling to deal Jaylen Johnson in a theoretical deal with Antetokounmpo … although Johnson’s agent, Rich Paul, said in one of his recent podcasts that he should be the exact target for Milwaukee podcasts in Milwaukee.”

Johnson was set to be the cornerstone from the Hawks, and with the way he’s been playing, there’s no surprise they’d be willing to trade him. As for the picks they have from the Bucks, they could end up being valuable pieces for the Hawks, especially if Antetokounmpo is traded.

In the event that the Hawks keep Johnson and pair him with Antetokounmpo, the Hawks still have no interest in a deal.

“Sources say Atlanta has some level of reservations about the skill sets of Antetokounmpo and Johnson and how they would match up after they dealt Young in early January to make the 24-year-old their new center,” Stein and Fischer wrote.

In the end, it doesn’t look like the Hawks want to get in the way of making a deal for Antetokounmpo, and are more focused on staying flexible financially, making smart deals and building through the draft.
