Why the Jordan Poole trade is under increased scrutiny

The New Orleans Pelicans they are in dire straits right now, as the product on the pitch hasn’t looked good and off the pitch too, things look like a mess. After their loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Willie Green has been relieved of his duties as a head coach, which felt like it was going to happen sooner rather than later.

One of the things Green did earlier in the season was bring Jordan Poole off the bench after they traded for him in the offseason. The trade is now gaining scrutiny after Greene was fired, or rather because he was he was not the type of player that Joe Dumars has said he wants the team, per Michael Scott of HoopsHipe.

“Poole’s player profile does not fit the description Dumars told his staff he was looking for shortly before he made the trade,” Scotto wrote. “His salary was also considered a tough deal by rival NBA executives. However, Dumars’ right-hand man, Weaver, spearheaded that trade with his former Wizards teammates and was a strong proponent of the Queen trade, knowing him well, in part because of their local ties, league sources said.

“While Dumars and Weaver have identified young talent in the draft with Fears and Queen, NBA executives have largely questioned the management of their assets across the league, along with the handling of the Greens’ coaching situation.”

Dumars and the Pelicans have been under scrutiny since the draft, after trading their first-round pick next year to the Atlanta Hawks to move up and draft Quinn. For now, it looks like that draft pick could be a good one looking at their current performance.

At this point, all the Pelicans can do is hope they play better, and the season is still young, so anything is possible.
