Why this top star ‘hates’ their iconic ring
More than a decade into her run with the promotion, WWE superstar Becky Lynchwhose official name is Rebecca Quinn, is not a fan of her ring name.
During an interview for The Viall Files: Going Deeper alongside her husband, fellow wrestler Seth Rollins, Lynch was asked if she still love her name on the ring. After all, she’s been the Becky Lynch of WWE fans since 2013, and it’s unlikely she can change that at this point.
She initially confused interviewers by saying: “I’m a big fan of the nickname because I hate my name. At first they thought she was referring to the name of her government.”
However, this is not the case. Lynch confirmed that she “loves” her government name. “Rebecca Quinn is great. What a great name,” she said.
She takes issue with Becky Lynch, who she claims “doesn’t roll off the tongue” after trying to demonstrate it several times. According to her recollection, WWE denied several of her ideas for ring names. They eventually landed on “Becky” before pairing it with “Lynch,” which was one of the Irish names they “approved.”
Now, Lynch loves the “Becky” part of her name. She was intentional when she tried to keep some of her government name in her wrestling ring so she could separate herself and still be recognizable whenever she retired. At the time, Lynch did not feel that she could “push back” against VVE’s ideas. So here she is, 13 years later with the same name on the ring.
Will Becky Lynch change her WWE name?
At this point, it is unlikely that Lynch will be able to change his name. She is one of WWE’s top stars and the audience would probably have a hard time accepting the new name.
Luckily, she has nicknames, something she’s a “big fan of.” Throughout her career, she was known as “The Man” and “Big Time Becks.”
She is the current Women’s Intercontinental Champion in her second reign. Lynch had just defeated Maxine Dupree to regain the championship for the second time.
