Why Wild could cover the spread/win

Wild is dealing with injuriesincluding one of their most important players, Kirill Kaprizov. Because of this, they couldn’t stop the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, losing 6-1 in a lopsided affair that shows just how bad things can get. Despite the loss, the Wild will still enter the game in second place in the Central Division. That speaks more to their incredible start and their ability to keep up the pace, even without their best guy.

But the loss of Kapriz has consequences. Unfortunately, they fell to 15th in goals and 21st in assists. That means someone has to step up to try and find a way to beat the Wild. Marco Rossi and Matt Baldi are likely candidates for that role. Likewise, Mats Zuccarello must find ways to distribute the puck.

The last time the Wild played the Golden Knights, they mustered just 22 shots and made 45 percent of their faceoffs. Additionally, they went 0 for 1 on the powerplay. That has to change for the Wild to have a chance.

With Marc-Andre Fleury out on Saturday, Philippe Gustavsson will get the start and enter with an 18-7-3 record with a 2.44 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. Lastly, he will also be looking to bounce back from his awful performance against the Avalanche. Gustavsson will play behind a defense that ranks ninth in goals and 29th in penalties. If they can’t get Brock Faber back from Jonas Brodin, then someone else on this defense has to step up.

The Wild will cover the spread if they find a way to generate more scoring chances and avoid giving the puck to the Knights. Then, they must avoid taking penalties and not put the defense in a bad situation.

Why the Golden Knights could cover the spread/win

The Golden Knights stay one of the best teams in the NHL. In the end, they somehow find a way to keep winning, even when injuries start to hamper them. Sometimes they lay an egg, as they did Thursday against the New York Islanders. Otherwise, everything is solid for an offense that is still humming.

Jack Eichel is the key to that attack, and his ability to center the first line makes them incredibly dangerous. Mark Stone’s ability to find the open shooter makes him valuable. Shea Theodore remains one of the original Golden Knights, continuing to solidify the defense. Meanwhile, Tomas Hertl is providing the secondary scoring the Golden Knights need.

It’s no surprise that the Golden Knights are seventh in goals and sixth in assists. Likewise, they are 10th in shooting percentage, highlighting incredible accuracy.

With Ilya Samsonov starting on Saturday, Adin Hill will start here and enter with a 17-7-2 record with a 2.60 goals-against rating and a .903 save percentage. He also plays behind a defense that ranks fifth in goals.

The Golden Knights will cover the spread if their offense continues to create opportunities and Eichel and Stone can make magic happen. Next, they need a strong defense to stave off the anemic offense the Wild has suffered recently.

Wild-Golden Knights final prediction and pick

The Wild are 21-21 against the spread, while the Golden Knights are 27-14 against the odds. Furthermore, the Wild are 15-6 against the spread on the road, while the Knights are 15-7 against the odds at home. The Wild are 19-21-2 against the over/under, while the Golden Knights are 19-20-2 against the over/under. Finally, the Wild are 2-4 against the spread when playing the other end, while the Knights are 3-2 against the spread and 4-1 overall when playing the other end guard-to-back.

I don’t like the Wild without their best players. Conversely, I love the Golden Knights and what they have. I believe they will do enough to cover the namaz at home.

Wild-Golden Knights Final Predictions and Picks: Vegas Golden Knights: -1.5 (+144)
