Will Anthony Davis demand a trade? Marc Stein publishes the latest news

The Dallas Mavericks recently faced the music and let go of CEO Nick Harrison nine months after his infamous trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The The Mavericks stumbled this year to a 3-8 record despite a relatively encouraging start from number one overall draft pick Cooper Flagg.

One big reason why Dallas has been so bad this year is their injury situation Anthony Davis will miss his seventh straight game on Wednesday night.

After Harrison’s firing, some speculated that Dallas could move Davis and/or Kyrie Irving in an attempt to fully embrace the rebuild, and most recently NBA insider Marc Stein shed some light about how Davis himself feels on that front.

“In the immediate aftermath of Harrison’s ouster there was no suggestion that he would try to force his way out simply because Harrison, who openly loved him and wanted to build around him, was suddenly fired,” Stein reported on Substack.

“The Mavericks are believed to be working with Davis’ camp over the next two-plus months as they decide whether to pursue a trade during the season,” he added. “Davis’ agent Rich Paul and Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont have formed a relationship that includes regular contact since being introduced at the Mavericks’ play-in victory in Sacramento in April.

Big decision for the Mavericks

Trading Anthony Davis would certainly help Dallas acquire some future assets, as 2026 will be the last draft in which the Mavericks will have their first-round pick until 2031.

However, it would certainly be a bitter pill to swallow given that Harrison orchestrated the Doncic trade specifically to pair Davis with Kyrie Irving in hopes of competing for a championship.

At this point, it’s unclear exactly what Davis’ trade value would be, especially now that his injury concerns have reignited.

Either way, the Mavericks will hit the court Wednesday night at home against the Phoenix Suns.
