Will Hornets flip player they just acquired in the Suns trade

The Charlotte Hornets have fallen out of contention for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference this year, thanks in part injuries to LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller and thanks in part to a roster that has been inconsistent for most of the season. After a fairly competitive start to the season, the Hornets are now just 10-28 on the season and 5.5 games out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Asa. as a result, the Hornets have begun releasing some of their key players as they search for expiring contracts and draft capital to continue their rebuild. That process started when The Hornets traded center Nick Richards to the Phoenix Suns to collect property.

One of the players the Hornets brought back in the deal is a winger Josh Okogiea defensive ace who doesn’t produce a ton of production on the offensive end. However, teams would still love Okogie’s services on defense, and possibly the Hornets willing to move it again, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

“Charlotte, mind you, may be planning another move with Okogie before the extension deadline upon Richards’ return,” Stein wrote.

Okogie is interesting for a playoff team because he is a cheap option on the wing who provides a key service that many teams are looking for. His ability to guard the perimeter is very valuable and could be a great addition to the team defensively. However, he has become a complete liability on the offensive end of the floor, making him very difficult to play in a playoff series. For that reason, it’s understandable why contenders around the league would be hesitant to bring in Okogie.

Despite his limitations, Okogie has a chance to provide great depth on the wing for a team in need of help at that position during the regular season, even if it may be difficult to find a spot for him in the playoff rotation. The Hornets will be looking for more draft picks, and Okogie could be a valuable trade chip for them.
