Will Kevin Stefanski bench Dillon Gabriel after the Jets disaster?

Any loss Dillon Gabriel takes only every week increases the cry for Shedeur Sanders. That was the case in week 10, when Cleveland Browns seemingly bottomed out in a 27-20 loss to the New York Jets.

No team is suffering the remainder of the 2025 season more than the Jets, who dealt Sos Gardner and Quinnen Williams at the trade deadline. Still, despite the roster change, New York still got its second win of the season in Week 10.

Gabriel had just 167 passing yards in the loss, leading to more questions about his status as the Browns’ starting quarterback. However, the head coach Kevin Stefanski quickly shut down all the rumours after the game and said the team would “stick with Dillon,” per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal .

Stefanski has repeatedly stated his plan to start Gabriel at least through the 2025 season. The Browns want at least one full season to evaluate their third-round pick as a potential starting quarterback before opening the door to Sanders.

If they ever post bail for Gabriel, Sanders is the next man up. Cleveland spent most of the offseason with four quarterbacks on its roster, but traded Kenny Pickett before Week 1 and dealt Joe Flacco immediately after benching him for Gabriel.

Regardless of Stefanski’s advocacy, c The Dillon Gabriel era got off to a horribly bad start. The rookie southpaw is just 1-4 as a starter, with his only win coming against the struggling Miami Dolphins.

A Week 10 matchup with the Jets seemed like an ideal matchup for Gabriel and the Browns. Not only was New York coming off of its dramatic trade-filled week, but Cleveland had extra time to prepare after the bye.

Instead, Gabriel had another ineffective outing, averaging a paltry 5.2 yards per attempt. He didn’t throw an interception, but he did take six more sacks. Gabriel passed for 200 yards in just one of his first five career starts.

It will be even tougher for Gabriel in Week 11, when the Browns host the back-to-back Baltimore Ravens, who have found a second wind with Lamar Jackson back in the lineup.
