Will Perdue gets 100% real about Luol Deng’s statement to Derrick Rose
On Saturday night, The Chicago Bulls immortalized the contributions of Derrick Rose for the franchise during his time with the team from 2008 to 2016. The Bulls franchise gave him one of the greatest honors one can receive, a jersey retirement ceremony that ensures no one on the team from here on out can wear his iconic number one jersey.
Attended Rose’s jersey retirement ceremony there were several of his former teammates, one of them is Luol Deng. The two were key cogs on a Bulls team that reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2011, falling to the Miami Heat in five games in a tough series. That core never made it that far again, which with Rose’s torn ACL changed the trajectory of the franchise pretty drastically.
During Rose’s jersey retirement ceremony, Deng went so far as to say he did their “trophy”as the Bulls team was never able to get over the hump. And this remark got the stamp of approval from Will Perdue, who believes that Chicago would break through if not for Rose’s torn ACL in 2012.
“Luol put it perfectly,” Perdue said on 670 The Score’s Spiegel & Holmes Show. “If he doesn’t get hurt, I say he’ll win the championship, no doubt.”
“Everything we’ve been through. That’s our trophy, man.”

If only Taurus could turn back the clock

It was in 2011 when everything was looking up for the Bulls. They had an impressive core led by Rose, Deng and Joakim Noah, with Jimmy Butler waiting for them. Carlos Boozer, Ty Gibson and CJ Watson were reliable players, and they also had solid contributions on the wings like Kyle Korver, Keith Bogans and Ronnie Brewer.
However, in the first round of the 2012 NBA playoffs. Rose tore his ACL late in a game the Bulls already won against the Philadelphia 76ers. Rose was never the same after that. The youngest MVP in NBA history never reached those heights again.
