Will Trae Young play with Anthony Davis this season?

The The Washington Wizards have made some noise recently by acquiring Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks at the NBA trade deadline. The move gives Washington two All-Star caliber players to develop in Davis and Trae Youngwho the team acquired from the Atlanta Hawks a month ago.
It was recently reported that Davis would likely suit up for the Wizards this season as he recovers from injury, and now some are wondering if Young could do the same to help Washington shameless tanking efforts.
“Wizards general manager Will Dawkins said over the weekend that Trae Young is expected to play for his new team at some point in the second half of the season,” NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Substack.
Stein also addressed speculation that Washington would also like to land Young to improve its draft positioning.
“Young is only 27 years old. He played in just 10 games in Atlanta this season before moving. Will he throw away an entire season of his career for Washington’s, uh, priority draft positioning goals?” he wondered.
Young missed most of the season for the Hawks this year with an MCL injury suffered in October, and has yet to suit up for the Wizards since the trade.
The prospect of adding blue-chip lottery talent to the core of Davis and Young is certainly enticing for Wizards fans, although the lottery odds have recently been lowered so losing a ton of games by no means guarantees the team a great draft pick. In fact, the last two number one overall picks have been awarded to teams that made the postseason.
Either way, the Wizards will next take the floor on Wednesday night for a road game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, their final contest before the All-Star break.
