With 13 consecutive defeats, the Kings break a sad record

KingsThis Monday, the two worst teams in the West, the Pelicans and the Kings, faced off. For Sacramentothe goal was to avoid a thirteenth consecutive defeat. The problem: The Kings will only last one quarter before seeing the Pelicans lead. Trailing by five points with twelve minutes to play, Sacramento finally trailed by fifteen lengths entering the locker room…

Unsurprisingly, the Californians didn’t correct their situation after halftime and saw the gap widen. The 30-point mark was reached at the end of the third quarter after a dunkIves Missy. Sacramento ended up losing 120-94 despite 21 points and 19 rebounds (career high) Maquime Raynaud.

“It was a tough night despite a pretty decent start,” regrets Doug Christie. “Obviously, we can’t let us lose the ball 17 times, let them have 29 points off those turnovers and 60 off the racket. They shot threes very well and we didn’t.”

Not content with conceding a 13th straight defeat, Doug Christie’s men have set themselves a very sad record. This is the most long losing streak since the arrival of the Kings in Sacramento in 1985.

One game away from the franchise record

“Everyone is frustrated,” admits the Kings coach. “But I’ll tell you one thing. If you come to practice, you’ll see our state of mind, you’ll get the impression that we’re a playoff team. The guys are very professional, they take care of all the details. Everyone’s involved.”

Either way, failing to truly be a playoff team, the Kings will be able to avoid rock bottom with a win against the Jazz this Wednesday. In case of defeat, teammates of DeMar DeRozan he would suffer his fourteenth straight loss, tying the franchise record first set by the Cincinnati Royals during the 1959/60 season then a second time during the 1971/72 campaign.

That would be a good thing for the club operation “tanking”.probably less because of the player’s ego…

“We are professionals, we will quickly move on to the next match”, recalls Maxime Raynaud. »It’s like when you go through a crisis with your shooting. You don’t look back and focus on what’s next. Our next chance will be against the Jazz in two days. »
