With eight injured, the Grizzlies call on Christian Kolok to help
With eight players unavailable for the trip to Oklahoma City, Memphis no longer had the luxury of delay: Ja Morant, Zach Edey, John Konchar, Ti Jerome, Scotty Pippen Jr. or even Brandon Clarke will thus be absent and the Grizzlies will thus sign a pivot Christian Koloko in 10 days via la «hardship exception»an emergency clause that allows players to be added when the injury list is full.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian continues his journey in dotted lines. Drafted 33rd overall in 2022, he showed great defensive promise in Toronto during his rookie season before a blood clot problem sidelined him for the 2023-24 season. While league doctors assessed whether he could still play at a high level, the NBA ultimately reinstated him in October 2024, re-signing him with the Lakers.
But his time in Los Angeles ended up being just a bracket: In late November, the Lakers cut him to make room for Drew Timme. His G-League rights were then reclaimed by the Austin Spurs.
