Without playing, the Spurs have already extended Mason Plumlee
Mission accomplished for Mason Plumlee. 35-year pivot managed to cash in on his 10-day contract with Spurs, who immediately hired him on a guaranteed contract until the end of the season. He will occupy the team’s 15th and final guaranteed contract left vacant by the departure of Jeremy Sochan.
What made Mason Plumlee strong was that he didn’t have to play a single second of the game to convince San Antonio management to extend him. His experience, his work ethic and defensive qualities will make him another asset up Mitch Johnson’s sleeve to help Victor Wembanyama.
His extension could raise questions, with Luke Cornett and Bismack Biyombo also in the squad. But the Spurs front office no doubt felt that his profile and his qualities could prove useful. especially regarding the playoff duel against Nuggets Nikola Jokic, whom he knows well since he played with Denver for more than three years.
Arriving in Charlotte from Phoenix this summer, Mason Plumlee played 14 games with the Hornets before being sent to OKC at the trade deadline, where he was ultimately cut. land in San Antoniotwo weeks later.
