Wizards’ Cam Whitmore is officially out for the season due to a blood clot



The Washington Wizards they took a low swing this past offseason when they sent two Houston Rockets second round pick for Cam Whitmore2023 first round pick who is extremely athletic and explosive when driving to the rim. However, the 21-year-old wing has been out for weeks with a blood clot in his shoulder dubbed “deep vein thrombosis,” and the Wizards announced an unfortunate update about the situation on Thursday via social networks.

“Washington Wizards guard/forward Cam Whitmore has begun the recovery process from a diagnosed vein condition and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season,” Wizards PR said. “The team will provide additional updates as needed.”

If approved, the Wizards will be allowed to sign a trade for half of Whitmore’s salary or the amount middle level exception of non-taxpayerswhichever is less, according to HoopsRumors. The Maryland native’s club option is worth $3.5 million against the cap this season.

Whitmore completes the 2025-26 campaign with 9.2 points per game on 45.6 percent shooting (28.6 percent 3-pointers) and 2.8 rebounds in 16.9 minutes. The former Villanova Wildcat had three games in November with 19-plus points and shot 52.3 percent (35.5 percent from 3-point range).

Whitmore last played in Washington’s 146-101 loss to the Boston Celtics on Dec. 4. Coach Brian Keefe said the Wizards have to “reevaluate what we’re doing” after the contest, but refused to separate any particular player. However, he said at the time that the 6-foot-6, 230-pounder needed to “live up to a certain standard” after their Defeat at home 131-116 to the Atlanta Hawks on Dec. 6, according to Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle. Whitmore was made available before the game after being listed as “questionable” with an illness on Dec. 5, but did not play.

Washington then announced that Whitmore would be indefinitely with deep vein thrombosis on Dec. 23 after missing the previous two games with “right shoulder soreness.” Keefe told ClutchPoints January 2 that The 2022 McDonald’s All-American has improved and is “in good spirits,” but “it’s going to take some time.”
