Wolves are monitoring the situation around Ja Morant
Like Jimmy Butler last year in Miami, I Morant he explains that he has lost his joy on the field and it shows.
Frustrated with his coach’s rotation, Tuomas Iisalothe former coach of Paris Basket, as he is a fan of an intense style of play with quick rotations, it seems that he is not far from calling for a change of atmosphere…
“I understand very well the players who say that”answered the Finnish coach. “Many players were conditioned during their careers to play for a long time and find a rhythm, but basketball, like every other team sport in the world, is evolving, and the demands for intensity are getting higher and higher. We are also trying to adapt to the times.”
Tuomas Iisalo therefore wants players who are constantly at full strength, contrary to what his star has been showing lately.
“These replacement schemes require a lot of preparation and intuition. We often forget that the goal of replacement schemes is to optimize results in the short, medium and long term. This is their only goal: to find a competitive advantage” he adds again about his approach.
Rockets not interested?
The problem is that this approach only works if the players – and especially the stars – are fully on board. Already difficult to impose in Europe, this system represents a real cultural upheaval in the NBA. And Ja Morant, very attached to his habits and traditional usage, seems to have difficulty adapting to them.
So it’s no surprise that several teams are monitoring the situation. According to The Athletic, despite Fred VanVleet’s injury, Rockets they should not be placed. On the other hand, Wolves will wait while they look for a point guard as Mike Conley ages and Rob Dillingham is still very green.
It remains to be seen what Minnesota is willing to let go (Rudy Gobert? Julius Randle?) to recover the oft-injured Ja Morant, who, despite his flashy performances, offers few defensive guarantees or even outside skills.
