Words or deeds in Orlando
Returning from Europe Magic continued the normal course of its regular season, losing in long stretches against the Hornets. They missed the meeting, from the first minutes with an unsuccessful start, which caused the continuation of the match.
“They jumped on us and we weren’t organized. We let the game slip away. We can’t be that far in the first quarter and expect to come back just because we’ve already done it.”, regret Paolo Banchero referring to the last game between the two teams in which Orlando was already behind before losing. “We let our offense affect our defense. The shots weren’t going and we stopped defending. This is unacceptable.”says Jamahl Mosley.
An excuse for the time difference after a few days spent in Germany and London could be made that Magic did not show, for many weeks, this questionable attitude and very average results. Paolo Banchero said that when the Floridians returned home : “We can’t just say we have to do this or that.”
“Easy to say, hard to do”
That’s the problem. Magic makes correct observations before or after meetings and constantly requires more intensity, desire, will. Then, on the ground, it is difficult to see the match between words and actions. Which is starting to annoy Jamal Mosley.
“Deeds versus words. Easy to say, hard to do.” the coach notes. “You’ve got to have that mindset of doing everything possible to get the job done. I can easily tell we’re going to be aggressive. Then, we miss two or three shots and stop defending, stop getting back on defense. We have control over those things, it’s easy to have control over it night in and night out. We can choose to block on the rebound, control the effort and address. We don’t address.
So Magic needs to stop talking and start playing. The magic of words alone will not be enough to reverse the trend. “It’s up to all of us to do it. We’re unique. We’re the ones who have to fix things because we all lose together. And we win together.”Jamahl Mosley recalls.
