Would the 49ers pass up a trade offer for Mack Jones with a 3rd round pick?

Recently, the San Francisco 49ers Season 2025 ended with the demolition of the road on by the hands of the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. The loss ended an injury-riddled 49ers campaign, including several key players such as quarterback Brock Purdy.
In several of Purdy’s absences this year, the former first-round pick Mac Jones started for the 49ers, and mostly played well, leading some to wonder if another franchise he might be willing to take a chance on the former Alabama Crimson Tide star as the starting quarterback the following year.
Recently, Vic Tafur of the Athletics laid out what the 49ers’ plan could be if teams come to them with offers for Jones.
“(John) Lynch and (Kyle) Shanahan didn’t seem flexible when the subject of trading quarterback Mack Jones came up Wednesday. But that may have been just posturing or a sense that it was too early to signal goodbye to the popular, self-admittedly goofy backup, who won five games for Tafur last season.
He also knocked down one frame which would probably have been enough to get the job done.
“Surely an offer for a third-round pick would be too rich to pass up for more years of Jones, especially given Shanahan’s success in developing quarterbacks,” he added.
There are several teams around the league currently in quarterback purgatory and might be willing to part with significant draft capital to take a chance on Jones, who led the 49ers to a shock road win over the Los Angeles Rams at one point this year.
Still, that would require the team to put a lot of faith in Brock Purdy’s health, which hasn’t exactly been reliable during his time as the 49ers’ quarterback.
Either way, it looks like it’s going to be a busy offseason in the Bay Area.
