Yegor Demin has been ruled out for the first consecutive game of the season due to a foot injury

Brooklyn Nets rookie Yegor Demin will be ruled out for Monday’s match with the team Houston Rockets. After Sunday’s 118-107 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, the Nets have waived the No. 8 pick for the first consecutive pick of the season because of a left plantar fascia injury.

Demin missed much of training camp and the preseason due to a foot injury. However, he has looked healthy since joining the Brooklyn lineup. The 19-year-old scored 14 points in his NBA debut against the Charlotte Hornets before making several clutch plays during Friday’s failed comeback against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Demin struggled against the Spurs, scoring three points on 1-of-5 shooting from three with four rebounds, one assist and two turnovers. The Russian general’s limitations on the ball are evident, as he struggled to initiate attacks or get downhill on drives.

Through three games, Demin has yet to attempt two points. That shooting diet is a continuation of his reliance on three-pointers in Summer League. Only four of his 27 field goal attempts in Las Vegas came inside the arc.

Despite that, Demin’s three-point shot looked much improved. He converted 10 of 19 (52.6 percent) attempts through four NBA appearances, including Brooklyn’s preseason finale. The former BIU guard shot 10 of 23 (43.5 percent) from distance in three Summer League outings.

Brooklyn also ruled out Ziaire Williams for Monday’s game. Williams left the Spurs loss after suffering a back contusion on a heavy fall and did not return. The 6-foot-9 forward scored a career-low 25 points while shooting 9-of-13 from the field and 6-of-9 from three in Friday’s loss to the Cavaliers.

With Demin ruled out, rookie Nolan Traore is in line to get reps at full-back behind Ben Saraf. Jalen Wilson should also see an extended workload in place of Williams.
