Yegor Demin shares a hilarious story about paying “heavy” rent in New York

Brooklyn Nets newcomer Yegor Demin is still adjusting to life in the Big Apple. During the recent an appearance on From The Logo with Jimmer FredetteDemin revealed that his first rent payment was one of the hardest parts of the transition from BIU to the NBA.

“I paid rent, which wasn’t easy. It was frustrating. Coming from Utah to New York and paying rent, it’s pretty tough, I can’t lie. It wasn’t, mentally, the easiest thing,” he said with a laugh. “I bought (for) some needs, some clothes, you know. Now I have to be on par with (NBA) status in clothes. And yeah, just things like this. Furniture costs a lot here, too. I don’t plan to buy a car this year, so I don’t think there will be any big purchases. I’m just going to make money and try to invest money, be smart to make sure they’re safe.”

Demin joined the Nets as the 8th pick in the June draft. He signed a four-year, $31 million contract that will pay him $6.9 million this season.

In addition to the cost of living, Demin said he has been adjusting to a different social environment since joining Brooklyn.

“In college at BIU, we have bonfires, we go bowling, we go hiking, things like that,” he said. “And here, most people have families. Some guys have kids, wives, and then they’re all tired. Nobody really wants to go and hang out. And if they do, most of the time, it’s a club or something. Which – which I’m not – I don’t try to go to those places, that’s for sure.”

Despite that, the rookie said he has developed close relationships with several of his Nets teammates.

“I’m actually good with everybody. I try to be a really good guy and be a friend to everybody, which is hard sometimes. I’m pretty good with this guy named Tyrese Martin. And Terrence Mann is a great guy for this group,” Demin said. “I’m really happy we got him. I’ve gotten to know him a little bit more, and he’s not the loudest, but he knows what he’s talking about, for sure.”

It’s there there is no shortage of pressure on the Russian park general as the Nets’ first lottery pick choose in 15 years. After a slow start, Demin has shown promise in recent games as he moves into Brooklyn’s starting lineup. He is averaging 11.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists on 48.0 percent shooting from the field and 47.1 percent from three in his last three appearances.
