Zach LaVine shows a return to form with a sweet backhand dunk

The Sacramento Kings entered their NBA Cup game against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday with some momentum after winning back-to-back games, serving as a bright spot in a dull campaign.

They were, however, sent crashing back to earth early, as they were swept away by the Sun in the first quarter 41-16.

The Kings showed more fight in the next frame, including a one handed back slam dunk from Zach LaVinerousing the crowd at the Golden 1 Center. Lavin took advantage of his speed and got past Mark Williams before hitting him in style.

Lavin reminded everyone that he could still throw it. He’s not a two-time slam dunk champion for nothing.

Early in his career, the high-flying guard routinely made highlight plays. But over the years, he has learned to become a more mature and well-rounded player, especially improving his shooting and game play.

However, the 30-year-old LaVine will have to do more if he wants to help the Kings go in a better direction. Sacramento’s woes only got worse with Domantas Sabonis out for four to six weeks with a knee injury.

The Kings are loaded with high-use guys, including LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Russell Westbrook and Dennis Schroeder—all backcourt players. LaVine may need to adjust his game and play more off the ball to give Sacramento a different look.

His numbers have dipped this season, averaging 20.5 points on 49.8% shooting, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists before facing the Suns.

As of this writing, the Kings are still up by double figures in the fourth quarter.
