Zach Love’s ‘What are you smoking?’ about the bogus Ja Morant-to-Heat trade

As it is trade rumors surrounding Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant keep spinning, one of the few teams associated with the guard is Miami Heat. While it is The Heat will continue to be associated with Morant until February’s trade deadline, this NBA insider’s thoughts on what a trade could look like, and some are far too far-fetched.

Zach Lowe spoke on his self-titled show about Morant and the trades Miami can make to get him there, where he talked about a mock deal that saw him get Andrew Wiggins, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and two first-round picks for Morant. Lowe would crash that trade, instead of theorizing the deal centered on Tyler Hero.

“Miami was a hot team,” Lowe said on the latest episode of his show. “I saw some mock trade where it was like Wiggins + Jaquez + 2 first round picks, and I was like, ‘What are you smoking?’ The Miami trade is more like Hero + Dead Money (Terry Rozier) + not much else.

“I think some team will end up trading something real for him,” Lowe continued. “It’s the ultimate ‘buy low’ thing; He’s never going to be this unhealthy. Off-field stuff, hopefully, from the back end. He’s completely unmotivated out there and he’s going to get a motivated chip on his shoulder (when he’s gone).”

With Morant’s trade value continues to be a debate among the basketball world, Lowe seems to think he’s a buy-low candidate because of his off-court issues and injury history. However, it could turn out to be a lot when you’re motivated by another team, like Miami, looking to improve from an “average team,” as Lowe put it.

“I don’t feel — and this is bluff season — but I don’t feel a lot of interest from Miami, but I bet they’ll take a look at (Morant) because they’ve lost four of five (games),” Lowe said. “It’s clear what they are – they’re an average team.”

Either way, it remains to be seen if the Heat will move on with Morant before the deadline.
