Zion Williamson is destroying the Bucks defense in an absolutely wild offense

All indications point to The New Orleans Pelicans are at the trade deadlinerefusing to deal with key players such as Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III, among others, for the draft capital. It is believed that the Pelicans have fully embraced this roster, that a clean bill of health means more competitive basketball in the future.

While many may debate the merits of keeping this same roster together for a 13-39 season in which they won’t even reap draft rewards of their own rot, every once in a while, the Pelicans pull off something that lends credence to the front office’s faith in this core.

On Wednesday night, in the third quarter of the Pelicans’ game against the Milwaukee Bucks, Williamson picked up the ball in halftime. He then went over AJ Green before going up for a double clutchtwo-handed throw where he had to avoid a late block attempt from Myles Turner.

At this point, the Pelicans have a few identity issues to resolve. The emergence of young players like Derrick Queen and Jeremiah Fears has forced New Orleans to rethink how they must play Williamson. But plays like these from Williams fuel the hope, or perhaps the delusion, that the Pelicans aren’t far from contention.

Are the Pelicans ready for a quick turnaround?

The Pelicans certainly have some talent at their disposal, and some could quite easily argue that keeping them together for continuity purposes could bear so much fruit in the near future. Moreover, they still have Dejounte Murray is back since an Achilles injury, so there is even more talent on this roster than is currently present on the hardwood.

However, the Pelicans need to fix their defensive issues and may need to pack away a few of their players to consolidate the talent to avoid a stalemate.
