Zion Williamson’s injury update doesn’t offer many clues

New Orleans is in a tough position early in the season. Not only are they last in the Western Conference, but they also have several injuries to some of their key players. Zion Williamson has missed the last five games due to a hamstring injury, i there is no timetable when he will return, according to the team’s latest update.

“The Pelicans say Zion Williamson continues to make good progress through his hamstring rehab and has been cleared to resume contact court basketball activities. His return to action will be updated as appropriate,” ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The fact that Williamson was able to resume basketball activities is great and it sounds like he could be close to returning. At the same time, the Pelicans may want to be cautious about how they bring him back, and it could be a slow ramp-up process. Williamson has an injury history and hamstrings are difficult to decipher, so the best approach is to be patient.

With Williamson out, players like Derrick Quinn have gotten more minutes, and the rookie is showing why the Pelicans chose to trade him up in the draft. Unfortunately, his game didn’t result in wins, and rumors about it came out Willie Green’s future as a head coach.

He could be on a short leash, and after their loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, the Pelicans’ next opponents are the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets.

It’s a tough road, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Pelicans make a decision on Green through that stretch. Hopefully Williamson will come back at some point and stop the bleeding, but no single player can fix this.
