Zvezda’s Mikko Rantanen explains the Wyatt Johnston relationship
The The Dallas Stars remain one of the most dangerous teams in the Western Conference thanks to their usual highlights, Mikko Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston, who is among the club’s top scorers.
One of the more offensively gifted players in the NHL, Rantanen is on pace for another elite season, having already recorded 11 goals and 23 assists, a season-high 33 goals and 70 assists.
He spent most of his time playing alongside Johnston, whose right-handed shot complements Rantanen’s left-handed release. Rantanen, who spent most of last season playing with two left-handed teammates after arriving in Dallas in March, noticed a difference in skating with a right-handed player like Johnston. similar to his experience alongside Nathan MacKinnon with the Colorado Avalanche.
“Obviously I had a lot of success last year playing with (Roope) Hintz and (Mikael) Granlund. They’re two lefties, so it’s not the end of the world,” Rantanen said, via ESPN. “But playing a lot with Nate in the past as a righty, it’s more for me to play and stuff. (Johnston) is a really good player. He can score. We’re getting along pretty well. Obviously, it takes a while. We haven’t played that long together, so we can still get better, but it’s going in a good direction.”
Rantanen, Johnston and the Stars next face the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 3 at the Prudential Center. The puck is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET.
The Stars will need Mikko Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston to step up

The The star suffered an unfortunate injuryas the club confirmed that forward Tyler Seguin could potentially miss the rest of the 2025-26 season after suffering an ACL injury during Tuesday night’s game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
Before the injury, Seguin, one of the longest-tenured members of the Zvezda, had seven goals and 10 assists in 27 games.
With Seguin out for the potential remainder of the campaign, the Stars will look to the likes of Rantanen and Johnston to continue to lead the club toward their goal of winning the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1999.
