Hornets get new information on Brandon Miller’s injury after thriller over Bulls

As if it is The Charlotte Hornets haven’t had their fair share of injury luck already more bad news has followed the seemingly serpentine franchise. Instead of being able to celebrate a hard-fought 125-123 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Friday night, the Hornets received word that the other offensive lineman Brandon Millerone of the fastest rising young stars in the league, suffered a torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist and out indefinitelyaccording to Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer.

Miller has been dealing with a wrist injury in recent weeks, and was given an injury report before the Hornets’ clash against the Bulls on Friday night. But clearly, the 22-year-old was nowhere near 100 percent, as not only was he not given the green light to train, but he was diagnosed with a serious injury that leaves him with no concrete time frame for his return.

The rookie second-year wing last suited up for the Hornets on Jan. 15 in a 117-112 win over the Utah Jazz. During that contest, Miller did not appear to be hampered by the wrist injury that would later sideline him. He scored 20 points on 8-18 shooting from the field and for once it looked like The Hornets will get their favorite starting five for consistently playing games.

This uptick in injury luck turned out to be short-lived, and with the Hornets not exactly in a competitive position, there’s no point in rushing Miller in his recovery from a torn ligament in his right wrist — his dominant hand, no less. There is no timeline for Miller’s recovery at this time, as more tests will be conducted over the next few days to determine the severity of his condition.

A torn ligament near one’s hand usually does not bode well for future prospects. While the surgery should help Brandon Miller get back on track, it could mean the Hornets wing could miss more than a month of action.

The Hornets were also extremely careful with their health of their young players. Infamously, starting center Mark Williams was doubtful on the injury report for nearly the entire 2023-24 season as he recovered from a back injury. Miller’s timeline for a return will depend on the course of treatment he goes through, and the next few days should shed light on whether or not he will need surgery.
