Stephen Curry admits he’s old with a hilarious “unc” remark.

Stephen Curry was one of the best basketball players in the world since it broke out for Golden State Warriors in a huge way during the 2012-13 season. That was 13 years ago. But still, even though Curry is in the 17th year of his professional career, he remains a legitimate superstar and shows little to no signs of aging, having entered the Dubs’ Monday night matchup after 35 points against the Portland Trail Blazers and 42 points against the Denver Nuggets before that.

But Curry, with his age (he’s 37 and will turn 38 in March), knows he can no longer be that explosive scorer every night. The Warriors need to support him more than ever, and that’s exactly what they did on Monday in a A 131-118 win over the Grizzlies. Curry took the backseat and scored just 16 points on the night — with Jonathan Cummings leading the way with 25 points, Brandin Podziemski adding 23 in his breakout game of the year and Moses Moody pouring in 20 off the bench.

In his postgame presser, Curry admitted to being a spring chicken from the past for longer — even calls himself “uncle” in the process.

“There’s going to be games when all the Uncs come out and they’re going to have to step up. I’m going to lean on (my name is UNC) for now,” Curry said via 95.7 The Game on X (formerly Twitter).

This Warriors team is loaded with “uncs”. In addition to Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Al Horford will need to handle their load for the Dubs. Butler is 36, Green is 35, and Horford, who is the fifth oldest active player in the NBA, is already 39 years old.

But the Warriors’ young core appears poised to hold down the fort even as their veterans get scheduled days off.

The Warriors are coming back strong in numbers. Kuminga, after a lengthy restricted free agency process, appears to be the new man now that he’s back with the team, and Kerr has been rewarded with increased minutes and a role. Kuminga is buying into the Warriors’ system more than ever, and his 25-point, 10-rebound night is the latest evidence of his jump.

Podziemski and Moody were also solid on Monday night, and these games will need to come more often from them as the Dubs look to survive the hard work of the regular season.
