Kris Bryant is not giving up on his MLB career despite lingering injury problems
Kris Bryant is gone from the National League MVP and World Series champion possibly the worst contract in MLB history in less than a decade. He hasn’t played 100 games in a single campaign since 2021 and barely logged a full season in his first four years with Colorado Rockies. Injuries ruined his career, so it was incredibly easy for Father Time to find him. Bryant, however, is not ready to comply.
Despite the current suffering from a back problem which he says has affected his daily life, the 33-year-old he has no intention of retiringaccording to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. He wants to stay on the show and return to the competition. Considering all the obstacles the four-time All-Star has faced since landing in The Mile High City, it’s hard to imagine a return worth the effort. The body isn’t often ignored, but neither is $81 million.
Rockies fans don’t expect Bryant to waive the remaining salary on the seven-year, $182 million contract he signed in March 2022, so his defiant attitude shouldn’t come as a surprise. They can only hope that after a painfully long futility some happiness will await them.
Kris Bryant’s incredible comeback would give people a reason to believe in Rockies baseball again. Colorado saw what the former Chicago Cubs shortstop could do in his first season with the National League West club, as he posted a .306 batting average and hit five home runs in 42 games. The injuries continuednevertheless. The back is a particularly sensitive area for the athlete, and Bryant has yet to find a solution after all this time.
His future in the Rockies looks the same as his present and past: extremely bleak. But the man wants to finish this. Because of him, and because of his fan base, Bryant will ideally overcome his ailments and be able to focus solely on baseball. He has a long offseason ahead of him to figure out his next step.
