Houston starts insurance because of injury to Ka’imi Fairbairn

The Houston Texas (3-5) have multiple holes to fill during a critical November slate. CJ Stroud’s concussion pushes an already vulnerable squad into an unsettling situation. This team has had enough trouble building an offense with their starting quarterback on the field. What can backup Davis Mills do behind a largely unreliable offensive line? Scoring could be even more difficult given Ka’imi Fairbairn’s current injury status. Accordingly, Houston is signs a new kicker.
Matthew Wright is coming to Space City, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelliser. The Texans are adding the 29-year-old to the practice squad, preparing for the possibility that Fairburn’s new lower-body ailment could keep him out of Sunday’s home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3). Since it also exists uncertainty about Stroud’s health currently, the team must support all other areas of concern.
Wright played one game each for the Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders this season, had a 46-yard field goal and converted both extra point attempts. He connected on 87.5 percent of his FG attempts during his NFL career. The Texans will continue to evaluate Fairbairn before deciding whether to go with Wright for the big AFC South showdown.
Houston worked for much of the 2025-26 campaign, trusting its stifling defense (allowing an NFL-best 15.1 points per game) to lift its unpredictable O-Line. The DeMeco Ryans still have time to make a playoff run, but a divisional loss would seriously hurt the team’s chances.
Matthew Wright could potentially become a vital component of the Texans’ clash with the Jaguars. It will be prepared just in case.
