Paris and Lyon are among the 12 selected cities
During the Football Business Forum organized at Bocconi University in Milan, Giorgos Aivazogloudirector of NBA Europe and the Middle East, officially confirmed the list of 12 European cities that will have a permanent place in the future NBA Europe, the launch of which is planned for October 2027.
These cities represent the main sports and economic markets on the continent. They are distributed in eight countries: France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, Greece and Turkey.
Italy : Milan, Rome
France: Paris, Lyon
Spain: Madrid, Barcelona
Germany: Berlin, Munich
United Kingdom: London, Manchester
Greece: Athens
Turkey: Istanbul
“Milan is home to some of the world’s most famous brands. There are two great soccer teams, a great basketball team, Armani… I can’t comment on current discussions. We are in talks with some existing basketball teams.” he explained. “We are also talking to football teams that have a strong brand image, but do not have a basketball team, in this country and in this city. And there are some places where we will start from scratch. We know that there is a big fan base in Rome, we can revitalize some historical teams or create a new one.”
Giorgos Aivazoglou also added that the last four places will be awarded to the winner of the Basketball Champions League and three more teams from selected national leagues. “This is the most intriguing part, because it allows everyone to have ambitions” he assures.
