Chicago won the National League Team Gold Glove

The Chicago Cubs were appointed top defensive team in the National League, winning the 2025 Team Rawlings Gold Glove Award for the second time since the award was established in 2020. The award was announced Friday night, and the Texas Rangers took home their fellow American League.
Chicago’s defense was a major factor in their 92-win season and deep playoff run, reaching Game 5 of the NLDS. The Cubs led the NL with 84 defensive runs saved (DRS), 17 more than the next closest team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and second only to Texas’ 89 in MLB. They also topped the league in fielding value runs (40), defensive runs above average (34.7) and runs scored in the majors with 36 strikeouts above average and 30 runs prevented per Statcast metrics.
Individually, three players from Chicago have won Gold Gloves, more than any other NL team. Nico Herner was honored at second base, Ian Happ won his fourth straight award in left field and Pete Crowe-Armstrong earned his first in center field.
Hoerner stood out among all MLB second basemen with 17 DRS, 12.3 runs batted in above average and 14 strikeouts above average. Crowe-Armstrong ranked second among center fielders in DRS, runs above average, and OAA, while Happ was third among left fielders.
Chicago also had three other individual Gold Glove finalists: third baseman Matt Shaw, pitcher Matthew Boyd and catcher Carson Kelly. Uniquely, they were the only team with positive runs saved at eight of the nine defensive positions.
Furthermore, the Cubs won their first Team of the Year award in 2025 in the Fielding Bible Awards.
