Jordan Walsh’s “sloppy” mic drops right before the hero’s shootout against Magic

21 year old Jordan Walsh made arguably the most important shot in the Boston Celtics’ 111-107 victory over the Orlando Magic on Sunday, and issued an intense directive that could spur career evening.

According to Jay King of the Athletics, Walsh told rookie teammate Hugo Gonzalez that their mission was simple when they first entered the competition.

“Let’s screw up the game for everybody,” Walsh told his teammate.

With Boston leading 107-105 and less than 15 seconds left in the game, Walsh knocked down a 3-pointer from the corner that helped the Celtics seal the win.

“At first I thought Jaylen was going to shoot this, so let me go back,” Walsh said. “So I was running to go get the rebound. And then he swung by P (Peyton Pritchard) and I was like, ‘Oh wait, P could pass this to me.’ So I was like, let me go out (to the perimeter). So I came out and he saw me, he hit me, I hit and I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ I didn’t even celebrate or anything. I was in the moment. So that was pretty cool.”

The moment capped off a spectacular night for the young striker. Walsh played a game-high 26 minutes and also had six points, six rebounds and four assists.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla was recently impressed when Walsh said he felt like he was playing like his NBA life was “on the line.”

“That’s a beautiful quote,” Macula said. “I mean, that’s a deep quote and it’s probably not serious at all, but you have to have that kind of sense of urgency, especially for a young player. And it’s hard to learn. It’s hard to simulate, it’s hard to do, but he turned it on and had a sense of urgency like he plays that way like he’s playing on the basketball line. And he plays that way. credit to him.”

The The Celtics are now 5-6 on the season. They will host the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday.
