Cameron Boozer is following in Cooper Flagg’s footsteps at Duke
Cameron Boozer he didn’t wait long to make an impression on Duke. In his fourth NCAA game, Carlos’ son collected 35 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists in a big win against Indiana State (100-62), one of the best performances ever for a Blue Devils freshman.
With his 35 points, he joins Zion Williamson etc Jared McCain second-best offensive output by a Duke freshman, just behind 42 points Cooper Flagg last season.
All the other names in this Top 5 ended up in the first round of the draft, from Zion Williamson to Marvin Begley IIIwithout forgetting JJ Redick.
First of all, Cameron Boozer did it with monstrous efficiency: 13/16 on shots, 2/2 on 3-pointers and 7/11 on field goals. “I don’t know how we can be more efficient”, smiled his coach John Scheier. “On his three missed shots, I think he took the ball and made layups. He’s an incredible competitor.”
Cameron Boozer vows not to chase points: “When I focus on the right things, defense, rebounding and pressure on the ball, the rest comes naturally. I just think: what can I do with each action?” His teammate Caleb Foster confirms the impression of dominance: “When he gets the ball in the paint, he attacks the rim and is very hard to stop.”
Averaging 22.5 points heading into Tuesday’s matchup against Kansas, Cameron Boozer has already convinced his coach…
“He has a great attitude”concludes Jon Scheier. “That says a lot about him. I actually wish he was more aggressive with his shots. He does a great job creating shots for others though.”
