Mitchell was asked about the situation after the game.
“Oh s***,” he told ClutchPoints’ Spencer Davis. “I took a few steps back and then I repositioned my feet and was ready to deal with whatever it took. The kid wanted a selfie. I know he’s probably in jail, but when he gets out he’ll probably have a great selfie. I’m sorry, I don’t think it’s a joke.”
Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson added that he wasn’t sure what was going on during the “bizarre” situation.
“It was kind of weird. You never see that in an NBA game. I think you see that in European football, right? When a fan runs out there… Bizarre. Bizarre,” Atkinson said.
The Cavaliers won 131-124, and Mitchell scored a game-high 35 points.
