Klay Thompson slapped a technique after a move to the Heat bench

Dallas Mavericks veteran shooter Klay Thompson turned a lot of heads on Monday night after receiving a technical foul for a wild gesture toward the Miami Heat bench. That streak added an extra layer of drama to an already tense match in South Beach. The moment came after Thompson drilled a deep 3-pointer after Cooper Flagg made a deep 3-pointer. Thompson then turned to the Heat bench and made an emphatic gesture that immediately drew a whistle from the officials.

The Mavs ended up falling 106-102. Thompson’s fiery display, however, reminded fans that his competitive edge remains intact deep into his career.

Thompson’s technique came at a critical moment in the fourth period. It fired up the Miami crowd and changed the momentum in a tight game. Despite the technique, he still had a respectable performance with 13 points, three 3-pointers, two rebounds and two steals. His 3-pointer helped keep Dallas within striking distance.

So far this season, Thompson has been a steady veteran presence for a Mavericks team in transition. In 17 games, he averaged 10.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists. Although he was no longer a prolific scorer for Golden State, Thompson provided key flashes of his old sharp shooting. His main highlight was season outing with 22 points a few days ago against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Mavericks’ broader outlook, however, remains challenging. At 5-14, Dallas is fourth in the Southwest Division and struggling to find steam, going 3-7 in its last 10 games. The franchise has relied heavily on young center Flagg, especially in the absence of Anthony Davis. As such, the Mavs remain firmly in rebuilding mode. Meanwhile, Thompson’s veteran presence remains critical as Dallas works its way back toward contention.
