Raheem Morris ‘fired up’ after Michael Penix Jr.’s surgery

The The Atlanta Falcons are finally done their ugly loss on Sunday afternoon with a road win over the New Orleans Saints. In that game, Atlanta quarterback Kirk Cousins startedreplacing the injured Michael Penix Jr., who has been up and down so far in his first season as a full-time starter.

It was revealed that Penix Jr. suffered a partial ACL tear in the recent home loss to the Carolina Panthers and reportedly had surgery on Tuesday to repair the problem.

Now, the head coach of Sokol Raheem Morris talk about yours state of mind amid his quarterback’s recovery.

“It went well. … I was really fired up about it and I was really excited for him to come back,” Morris said, per Falcons’ Teryn Waack on X, formerly Twitter.

Some Falcons fans will be hoping Morris is no longer the team’s head coach by the time Penix Jr. back from surgery at some point next year, but that’s a question for another day.

Penix Jr. had two ACL surgeries during his college career, and adding a third to that list will certainly do nothing to quell questions about his durability moving forward, as well as the fact that he seems reluctant to dig in the pocket, which some have speculated could be due to the lingering mental effects of those previous injuries.

Right now, the Falcons are 4-7 in the 2025 NFL season, and while they’re still not officially tight ends, this is about when most fans would turn their attention to NFL mock drafts.

Unfortunately, Falcons fans can’t take solace in that either, as the team does not own its 2026 first-round pick, thanks to a previous trade with the Los Angeles Rams.

Either way, the Falcons will next take the field on Sunday against the New York Jets on the road.
