Conn Knuppel discusses Cooper Flagg and Rookie of the Month



The NBA Rookie of the Year battle between Kon Knuepel of the Charlotte Hornets and Cooper Flagg of the Dallas Mavericks heats up as the 2025-26 NBA season. Now he sat down on the Tonight Show to yes talk about the name Rookie of the Month next to Flagg, according to a post on X from the Tonight Show.

Knueppel discussed how Flagg texted him that day, admitting it was great to be honored as Rookie of the Month. Notably, Knuppel and Flagg were college roommates and both are now competing for the same honor. Knuppel made comparisons NBA veterans and stars for his outstanding play. So far, he’s averaging 18.3 points per game while shooting 46.5 percent from the field, including 41.5 percent from beyond the arc. He is currently the Hornets’ third leading scorer.

Knuppel even drew praise from the legends, showing how well he has played during this young NBA season. While the Hornets are still rebuilding, they have young talent that will eventually turn this team around. An appearance on The Tonight Show was an indication of the rookie’s rising star and what he could become.

Knuppel shared the spotlight with Flagg, who is flourishing in Dallas and also taking on more responsibility after injured stars. Currently, Flagg is averaging 17 points per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the hardwood but 25.6 percent from three. With Kyrie Irving out until at least January, Flagg is the second-leading scorer on a depleted Mavericks roster struggling to stay afloat.

Despite their teams’ records, Knuepel and Flagg continued to shine individually and are sure to be an important part of the future. For now, Knuepel will continue to develop throughout the season and will do whatever he can to help his team succeed while competing against someone he holds in high esteem.
