Norman Powell missed the Mavericks game with an ankle injury

Wednesday night, The Miami Heat will set out on a journey to take over Dallas Mavericks in the rematch last week’s close battle between the two teams, which Miami managed to win in the sequel. The Heat have been one of the more pleasant surprises of the early NBA season, currently sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference with a 14-7 record.

Unfortunately, before the Mavericks game, Miami won some tough injury news in terms of wings Norman Powell.

“The Heat say Norm Powell (sprained left ankle) is out tonight in Dallas,” NBA insider Marc Stein reported on X, formerly Twitter.

The Heat acquired Powell in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers during the offseason, and so far, it looks like one of the biggest home runs of any team this summer.

Powell has played at a borderline All-Star level for Miami, and most recently torched his former Clippers teammates during a big win over Los Angeles on Monday night.

The good news for Miami is that Tyler Hero recently returned from his own injury after missing the first part of the season, meaning the Heat still have plenty of play even in Powell’s absence. Some have questioned how Powell and Hero would consistently coexist in the offense, given that they play essentially the same position, but so far the early returners have shown promise.

Either way, the Heat and Mavericks are scheduled to tip things off Wednesday night at 8:30 PM ET from the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
