Fred VanVleet will not return this season
two weeks ago, Fred VanVleet explained that his goal is to return to competition this season after tearing his cruciate ligament before the start of training camp. “Nothing is guaranteed, but that’s what I’m aiming for, that’s for sure”, the playmaker assured. “I’ll definitely try to come back, that’s for sure.”
The Houston franchise still had little faith in it, not claiming the “Disabled Player Exception,” a draft envelope available when you lose a player for the rest of the season.
But fifteen days later, Yahoo! Sports tells us that the Rockets received a $12.5 million envelope (50% of the injured player’s salary), marking Fred VanVleet’s white season.
Now that several players from their team are portableWill the Rockets, who have limited options due to a huge salary, use this envelope to make a transfer and get a professional point guard? Or would Reid Shepherd’s very satisfactory start to the season and good collective results (16 wins – 7 losses, fifth in the West) convince the leaders of the level of this group?
