At issue is Anthony Davis’ injury status for the Pistons matchup

The Dallas Mavericks have been a huge disappointment so far in the 2025-26 NBA season, currently 10-17 heading into Thursday night’s showdown against the Detroit Pistons. Anthony Davis was in and out of the lineup due to injury as a trade rumors are swirling around the Mavericks amid their difficult start to the season.

Most recently, Mavericks got an update on Davis’ status for the game against the Pistons.

“Anthony Davis (left calf injury) will remain questionable for Thursday’s home game against Detroit, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd says. Davis missed Monday’s game at Utah after playing the previous six,” NBA insider Marc Stein reported on X, formerly Twitter.

Coincidentally, the Pistons have been one of the teams that have emerged as a potential trade suitor for Davis as they look to capitalize on their hot start to the season, currently leading the Eastern Conference by 2.5 games over the second-place New York Knicks.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have plenty of incentive to start calling up some of their veterans as they look to embrace a new era built around first-round draft pick Cooper Flagg, who recently became the first 18-year-old in NBA history to score 40 points in a game.

All in all, the Mavericks weren’t necessarily expected to be a legitimate contender this year, but it’s safe to say the team was hoping for a much better start than what they’ve shown so far.

Either way, the Mavericks and Pistons are scheduled to tip things off on Thursday at 8:30 PM ET.
