JJ Reddick called attention to the lack of consistency of the officiating

JJ RedickDuring the win against the Jazz, the Lakers were penalized with three technical fouls. Against the Clippers, they slowed down a bit as they only took two, including one for Marcus Smart. In the third quarter, the leader attacked the circle, shot, but felt that he was the victim of a foul by Brook Lopez. Faced with the absence of a whistle, he became angry with one of the referees and was immediately sanctioned.

Against the Jazz, the former Celtics player already had a technical foul, but he also had to pay a $35,000 fine for pointing the middle finger at the referee.

“We’re just looking for consistency,” explains Marcus Smart. “It’s funny because in the game against Utah I was named captain. The captain should be able to talk to the referees, but they don’t listen. I hope they get their act together because it’s a frustrating situation for the players. What’s the point of calling us if you’ve already made a decision?”

This lack of consistency, JJ Redick also pointed the finger at him afterwards loss to the Clippers and the Lakers coach aims for a very specific action. In the second half, the coach challenged the release of the ball in favor of the Clippers, thinking the ball should have gone to his team because Marcus Smart was shoved in the back when he deflected the ball out of bounds.

No response from the NBA

His challenge, however, was not upheld because the refereeing body considered that they were two different events and could only go back to the last part of the action.

“I’ve seen this happen before. A player makes a layup screen but someone pushes him from behind, it’s a clear foul. The ball is then deflected by the defensive team and I’ve seen that action challenged before.” reminds the Lakers coach. “The ball is part of the action and it’s lost because of the load on the back. It’s not two different actions, it’s crazy.”

Based on this example, JJ Reddick ensures that there is a real lack of consistency from the referees. The Lakers coach says he asked the NBA to look into the issue.

“This problem must be solved and it will be solved” hammers coach of Los Angeles. “All the players and coaches are looking for consistency. It’s not about pointing fingers at one ref, it’s about knowing what to expect every night. This is where it gets frustrating. We keep asking the league to contact me, but I’m not getting a response. Nobody’s calling me.”
