Kevin Durant shares the perfect reaction to the historic milestone against the Pelicans

Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant he entered the night just 16 points behind Dirk Nowitzki on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, with 31,544 points to his name. Averaging over 26 a night in his 19th season in the league, it was inevitable that Durant would outscore Nowitzki on Sunday night against the New Orleans Pelicans. But Durant did enough to get past Nowitzkiwith 18 points in the Rockets’ 119-110 victory.

It speaks volumes for how great a scorer Durant is that despite missing an entire season and missing a ton of games over the past few seasons, he still ranks this high on the all-time scoring list. Still, the Rockets star credits the people around him for helping him last this long as an NBA superstar, allowing him to achieve such a feat.

“It means a lot to be in the league this much. You need to play over a thousand games to even be in this category. So (I’m) thankful for all the people that helped me play this many games,” Durant said in his postgame presser. “Without them, without the village, I wouldn’t be here.”

The next man Durant can pass on the all-time scoring list is fifth place Michael Jordan, who has 32,292 points.

Durant is only 730 points behind on the scoring list, and the Rockets star should already be among the top five all-time scorers this season, provided, of course, that he stays healthy.

The Rockets star is putting up around 26 points a night with 42 games left in Houston’s season. Durant just needs it to average his current points per game in 29 games to pass Jordan — a more than doable feat.
