MVP of the night
Two years ago, 22.01.2024. Joel Embiid made NBA history by registering 70 points against the Spurs. Since that date the pivot has experienced dark hours and this Thursday night, as if to confirm this rebuilding season, he returned to great success against the Rockets.
How? Compiling a triple-double with 32 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. All in nearly 46 minutes, his longest time in a regular season game since December 9, 2022! Quite an evening then.
“Maybe I should have a baby on January 22nd”, MVP 2023 is having fun after the meeting. “Sounds like a good day to me. So when I get home I’ll talk to my wife about it. We’ll do the math to try and have a baby on January 22nd.”
A triple-double and 46 minutes, these are two key elements in Joel Embiid’s progression. “It’s definitely a big step forward, that’s for sure.”confirms Nick Nurse ahead of the performance of his pivot, excellent in the success against Houston. “I’m happy to be consistent and play every match, even if I’m not allowed to play back-to-backs yet”adds the player.

He was very solid on defense, with his presence, his activity and his desire, after grabbing the rebound, to make his teammates run. In the money time, while Tirese Mackey made the difference on offense, he blocked the Rockets, who faced him several times.
The Olympic champion was important in attack with 32 points and 10 assists, and valuable in defense with 15 rebounds. This may be his most complete match of the season.
“Dunks, blocks, rebounds, it takes a lot of effort and he’s starting to feel good. His competitive spirit is growing.” Pavle Đorđe is happy. “It’s even visible in practice and we’re starting to see the dominant Joel Embiid that we all know again. It’s refreshing, just on a personal level, because injuries affect somebody. It’s always nice to see a player come back to himself.”
And the Sixers with him. Sitting in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, Nick Nurse’s men are looking more and more like a team nobody will want to face in the first round of the playoffs in April. If everyone’s bodies keep well.
“Oui”, answers Paul George when asked if the current situation resembles what he imagined when he signed a contract in Philadelphia in 2024. “I don’t want to disparage the teams that won against us, but a lot of those games were close and we could be in the top 2 or 3 in the Eastern Conference. We want to be a team that can be a force and be competitive.”
