Jokic, Murray’s injury status for Thunder clash

The Denver Nuggets looked immediately re-centered with Nikola Jokic back in the lineup which led them to a 122–109 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. After a month out with a strained left knee, Jokic didn’t let up, scoring 31 points and 12 rebounds for his 29th double-double of the season.

And while he can be expected to line up against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Jokić and Jamal Murray both are listed as questionable for the game, according to the NBA official injury report. However, that’s only part of Denver’s injury concerns.

Nikola Jokic will likely have a bruised left knee after returning to a minutes restriction. Jamal Murray is dealing with inflammation in his right hamstring and left hip. Christian Brown is doubtful with a sprained left ankle.

Aaron Gordon is out with a right hamstring strain and Cameron Johnson remains out with a bruised right knee. Tamar Bates is out after left foot surgery, while Curtis Jones is out on G League assignment (two-way).

Regardless, the Nuggets can expect both of their biggest stars to play some role, especially considering the two combined for 51 points against the Clippers. Denver’s lead was short-lived before Jokic scored 11 points in an extraordinary 3:47 of the fourth quarter, turning a five-point lead into a comfortable cushion.

Jamal Murray completed Jokic’s return with one of his most effective orchestra performances of the season. Murray finished with 22 points, shot four of five from deep and dished out a team-high nine assists. Peyton Watson added 21 points, while Tim Hardaway Jr. added 22 off the bench.

The victory came not only in dramatic fashion, but also against a team that had won 16 of its last 19 games, proving once again that the Nuggets are more than small for any team in the NBA.
