Why Christian Coleman is facing charges related to Sha’Carri Richardson’s arrest

Olympian Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested for speeding last week in Florida, and her boyfriend, Olympian Christian Coleman, also faces charges.
In Florida, Richardson was pulled over by police after allegedly driving over 100 mph. For her alleged behavior behind the wheel, she was also charged with dangerous driving, speeding, failure to dim headlights, following another vehicle too closely and failing to yield.
In the video obtained by FOX 25 Orlando, an police camera footage recorded the interaction between the police and Richardson.
“Driving 104 mph in a 65 mph zone, bad gear, flashing people to pull over, following too close, using every lane to pass everyone, cutting me off, passing cars on the inside shoulder with hazard lights on, going to jail for dangerous speeding,” the officer is heard saying.
Richardson tried to defend herself after the officer explained why she was stopped and asked not to be taken to jail.
“I really want to work with you, sir. I’m a law-abiding citizen,” Richardson is heard pleading with the officer. “Sir, please don’t let me go to jail. Please. Please, sir.”
“Please, sir. I’m begging you. Don’t take me to jail,” she continued. “I’ll do anything. My tire, I can’t go to jail. I promise you, I’m not going to jail. I’m here. I have a team here. I have a coach, everything. I didn’t do anything on purpose.”
Why was Christian Coleman involved in Sha’Carri Richardson’s arrest?
Coleman was not the driver, but a passenger in the gold medalist’s Aston Martin. The 2019 100-meter world champion is currently facing charges because he “continued to refuse to identify himself,” according to a statement to People. Officers also allegedly found him in possession of drug paraphernalia.
While Richardson pleaded not to go to jail, she was still taken to the facility, but soon posted a $500 bond. Coleman posted a $1,000 bond. He is due to be arraigned on February 26, and Richardson will be in court on February 25.
