De’Aaron Fox drops a spicy truth bomb on the All-Star selection process

Through nine years, San Antonio Spurs star De’Aaron Fox was chosen for NBA All-Star Game just once. This is despite the fact that he is at least average 25 points per game for exactly half of eight full seasons.
As a result, on the eve of this All-Star game, the former Sacramento King said that such recognition is not important to him.
With the 2026 draft picks recently released, ClutchPoints asked Fox if it was important to the Spurs to Victor Wembanyama was their only All-Star.
“No, I’ve seen the worst team or the worst record in the league have an All-Star. And, like I said, when I traded here, I think I averaged 25 back then, and I wasn’t an All-Star.”
So I don’t care”, the 28-year-old guard finished his answer.

“I think we have some All-Stars on this team,” Spurs forward Julian Champagne told ClutchPoints. “With Vic, De’Aaron, and I’ll even throw Steph (Stephon Castle) in there, I think those guys have shown, proven a lot.”
Fox ranks second only to Wembey on the team in scoring with 19.8 points per contest. Reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle is third with 16.6 points per night, and at the same time he is the best defender of the Spurs.
“The more we play together, those accolades will keep coming, especially for a young guy,” Champagne continued to ClutchPoints. “I personally think those are three All-Stars. That’s how I feel about it, that’s how I look at it.
“I’ll take these three over anybody,” concluded Champagne in response to ClutchPoints.

De’Aaron Fox and Julian Champagnie reflect on Fox’s role change
Long one of the best running backs in the game, Fox’s scoring has declined as have his touches.
“I played a different role than I have played in my career,” admitted the former Kentucky star. “But for me, it’s just finding consistency. I’ve had good games, I’ve had bad games. It’s been great because we’ve been able to hang on and keep winning. I think we’re a little under .500, but we’re just trying to find that consistency and be able to impact the game, whether it’s on the ball, off the ball, when I’ve had more of the ball. but this is not the case.”
With Castle in the mix and with the addition of 2025 second-round pick Dylan Harper, Fox hasn’t had to bring the ball up the field nearly as often as he did in his first seven-and-a-half seasons in Sacramento.
“We’ve got a bunch of guys that can do a lot of different things, so you want to be consistent in that role that you have from game to game,” Fox added.
“Honestly, I couldn’t tell if he made any changes or anything like that,” Champagne said of Fox. “I think he just accepts that he’s a team player and I think the best part about our team is that there’s no real ego here.”
Not including a spot in the NBA playoffs, Fox has gone to the playoffs once before. He is a a big reason why the Spurs are on the right track for what would prove his second postseason appearance. That’s regardless of his – and their – All-Star status.
