Erik Spoelstra reveals the bright side of Tyler Hero’s unclear injury timeline
MIAMI – With The Miami Heat want to reach a high ceiling this season, the only area that has held the team back has been injuries, with players coming in and out of the lineup. As it is The Heat passed the trade deadline and watch as we head into the All-Star break with positive momentum, one of the players who had an injury-riddled season is a star Tyler Herro.
Aside from other players who have missed time with injuries, such as Norman Powell and Pele Larson, who did not play Monday against the Utah Jazz, Hero’s season has been frustrating, to say the least. Monday night marked Hero’s 14th straight game missed with the current rib injury, and he has been out 44 total contests with a myriad of issues.
Hero was out for the first 17 games of the season due to offseason ankle surgery, but would then miss more time with a sprained toe and is now dealing with what is listed as a “Right Costochondral; Rib Injury.” Miami’s head coach Erik Spoelstra would be asked before Monday’s game about a potential timeline for Herro, and the answer was again vague.
Still, Spoelstra would emphasize just how much “progress” Herro struggles while dealing with an injury.
“I don’t have a timeline, but I can tell you he’s progressing and doing what he needs to do behind the scenes, and we’re just going to continue to treat him. And when there’s an update, I’ll let you know,” Spoelstra said.

After Monday, there will be one more game before the All-Star break, with the next contest coming up on February 20 when the team visits the Atlanta Hawks.
Erik Spoelstra on Tyler Hero’s injury ‘deal’ with the Heat

With The Heat are featured on All-Star Weekend with Norman Powell being their first time in the game as well as the three-point contest, Kel’el Ware, Keshad Johnson and Jahmir Young are also participating in the events. While Powell looks to retain the trophy in Miami, given Hero won it last year, the star guard will use the time off to hopefully heal his rib injury to 100 percent.
While Herro’s timeline has yet to be revealed, as the same message was linked to ClutchPoints from the team, there’s no denying that the 26-year-old is working hard to get back on the field. Spoelstra would tell ClutchPoints on Jan. 31 that Herro’s “solve” is a trait that will push the guardian forward and make him healthy.
“There are things that happen to players in this league sometimes that you can’t control,” Spoelstra said. “The one thing I know about Tyler after spending so many years with him is that he’s determined. He’s got grit. He fights and focuses on the things he can control. Right now, everything is getting healthy, and they’re going to do their best to prepare. I’ve always admired that quality in him.”
No updates on Herr, but I would ask Erik Spoelstra about the disappointment of missing close to 40 games with a myriad of injuries.

Hero played in just 11 games this season, averaging 21.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 49.7 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from beyond the arc.
It remains to be seen if Herro will return then, as the Heat could use any kind of offensive punch they can get with a team that enters Monday at 28-26, which puts them in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. After Monday, the next game is Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
